Seafarer's certificate - Health certificate for seafarers

If you work on a Norwegian-registered ship (NOR/NIS) or a mobile facility, a valid health certificate for seafarers is required. What is a seafarer's certificate?

A seafarer's certificate is a mandatory health certificate that confirms that you fulfil the health requirements for working at sea. The certificate is usually valid for two years, but may be valid for a shorter period in the event of special health conditions. The certificate is issued by recognised seafarer doctors and can be used globally.

What does the health check involve?

The survey takes approximately 60 minutes and includes:

• Blood pressure measurement
• Height and weight control
• Urine sample
• Vision and colour vision test
• Hearing test

Before the examination, you must complete a self-declaration and identify yourself with a valid ID. We accept:

• Passport
• National ID card
• Maritime book
• Physical driver's licence (not digital version)
• Bank card with photo

Do you have health challenges?

If you have known diagnoses or health challenges, we recommend that you bring documentation from your GP or specialist. We can also help with exemption applications if you do not fulfil the health requirements or have been granted a limited certificate, as well as issuing declarations of incapacity where applicable.
